U11 Next Step Zonal League

Gold Coast Soccer 2011 Next Step Programme

Firstly a big thank you for the support you have shown to the Under 11 Next Step Programme. WE have had over 130 of our top under 11 players trying out over the past 4 weeks. The level of ability shows that we have an abundance of talented juniors on the coast and now our challenge is to ensure we provide as many possibilities as we can to allow each of them to reach their potential. Congratulations to the following 56 players for making it through to the next step and we hope you enjoy the experience and opportunity you will have over the next 6-12 weeks.

For those players not announced below please do not despair. We will be announcing a next step opportunity for you all in the next week to 10 days that will allow you to stay part of the process but in an environment where you can work on your individual skill and technique. Players who show rapid progress through coaching in this scenario will still be considered. We are looking for players that have ability but also players who can respond to coaching. Lastly a big thank you from me to the selection committee and coaching staff for the effort, dedication and hard work they have put in over the past month, it is much appreciated. We look forward to some excellent soccer being played over the next 10 weeks.

About the U11 Next Step Programme

The GC Soccer Next Step Programme is the pathway to selection for the highest junior soccer honour on the Gold Coast...Representing our city as a Gold Coast Rep player in the Rebel Junior Premier League.

The Gold Coast is divided into 4 equally strong zones (refer to below for break-up) in the U11 age group, resulting in the top 56 to 60 players training and playing with and against each other over 15-20 weeks under the guidance of qualified coaches. The culmination of this programme will see 14 boys selected to play for the under 12 Gold Coast Representative team in 2012.

Team Selection

Trials will start in June and will run for 3 to 4 weeks. The top 14 players in each zone will then be selected to train together and play in a round robin format over 7-10 weeks. Selection will be made by a panel of coaches who hold a minimum of a Youth Coaching licence. The coaching panel reserves the right to move players to another zone if required.

 Costs

Selected players will be charged a fee of $125, for which they receive approximately 30 hours of coaching and playing at a high standard and also get to keep their playing strips as a memento.

Training

Selected players will train once per week on Sunday mornings so as not to disrupt club matches or club training. Training will go for a maximum of 2 hours and will be conducted according to the FFA curriculum by your qualified coach.

The Next Step Programme is not the only pathway to becoming a successful soccer player. There are players who have made it as professionals without going through this process. However it is a programme that does give you a great soccer and life experience and gives you the only opportunity of being selected for Queensland State teams. It is an individual choice to take part and we look forward to working with those players that are up to the challenge.

Next Step Coaching Announcement:

It is with great pleasure that we announce the 2011 Next Step Zonal Programme Selection Committee and Coaching staff. This is a highly qualified group of applicants who have been organised to ensure we have experience in the FFA curriculum along with playing experience and the relevant coaching qualifications. There were 10 applicants in all with the most senior qualified coaches being selected. Coaching staff have been organised to ensure no club conflict with the zone they are coaching and no selector or coach has any children trying out in this age group. It is our intention to continue to scout for and develop coaches through these next step opportunities. Congratulations to all selected.
