Unite for the Great Aussie BBQ this Sunday

Thu Jun 24 2010

AUSTRALIANS of all ages love a tradition and this Sunday (27 June) the epitome of life down under, the great Aussie BBQ, gets turbo charged at Surfers Paradise with Gold Coast United players on hand to join in all the fun.

Held at Eileen Peters Park on the Esplanade (just south of Cavill Mall), The Great Aussie BBQ is the final event of the massively successful Surfers Paradise Festival. The beachside bash kicks off 11.00am with a host of United’s Hyundai A-League stars arriving at 2.30pm for football fun and frivolity with the crowd.

Fans can try to zig-zag a ball past Zenon Caravella, have a kick-about with Kristian Rees or try to explain the virtues of Vegemite to Dutchman Bas van den Brink.

Jason Culina and Shane Smeltz can’t make it of course due to their FIFA World Cup commitments, but Michael Thwaite, Joel Porter, James Brown and Scott Higgins will all be there for autographs, head tennis and football chat.

With the World Cup still in full swing in South Africa, it’s a great chance to come along and chew the fat with your favourite footballers and perhaps offer a World Cup tip or two – heaven knows you’d have to be better at tipping than they were – Tahj Minniecon tipped France!

It promises to be a top day so why not bring the family and sample some of the treats on offer. An incredible selection of food will be available including delicious steaks, succulent fresh seafood and incredible multi-cultural cuisine that will stimulate the senses, all provided by some of the Gold Coast’s top restaurants.

The Great Aussie BBQ will be hosted by the masters of the sausage sizzle, the gurus of the grill, 2 Chefs TV (Luke Cowden and Josh McAuley) (from the Foxtel & Austar Networks), who have elevated the act of having a simple BBQ to an art form.

And if all that isn’t enough the day will feature Aussie tribute bands, including idol contestant Casey Barnes and other musicians performing on stage, market stalls scattered throughout the park as well as an Aussie Bar set up under the beachside trees making for what will be the perfect day out.

Football supporters will also be able to collect information on how to become a Gold Coast United member for the 2010/11 season. With seats available from just $9.15 per person, per game for a family membership, watching United’s FIFA World Cup stars in your own backyard is great value.
