UNBEATEN OPEN WOMEN’S TEAM DO GOLD COAST PROUD

The Gold Coast Open Women’s team took part in the State Finals in Toowoomba on the weekend and came back unbeaten and not conceding a goal, but sadly missed out on first place through goal difference.

The first game was against North Queensland and after a slow start the Coast scored two first half goals from captain Jade Bianchetti and Charlotte Kittle. A further goal in the 2nd half by Rosie Sutton was enough to give the Coast a 3-0 win.

The 2nd game was against South West Queensland and the Coast ran out 4-0 winners. Goals from Rosie Sutton (2), Jade Bianchetti and former Swedish International Sofie Ekberg were enough to get the three points.

In the 3rd game, the Gold Coast was up against the favourites, Brisbane. It was a tight game, with neither team giving much away, and ended 0-0 with very few chances for either team.

The 4th game was against Wide Bay and the Coast was too strong for them, winning by a margin of 5-0. The highlight of the game was a hat trick by Rosie Sutton and goals from Jade Bianchetti and Kitty Ingold.

The Gold Coast finished their games by playing Central Queensland and winning by 3-0. Goals were from Kitty Ingold (2), and Rosie Sutton. Goalkeeper Nicole Barnaba was outstanding during the tournament and didn’t concede a goal.

A special thanks goes to Fred Stone the Gold Coast Women’s Director, Bree Edwards the Assistant Coach, Steve Neligan who also helped coach and Sharon Edwards, the Manager, who worked tirelessly behind the scenes. Last but not least a special thanks to the girls who worked hard throughout the tournament. We had probably the youngest team at the finals and with the right coaching, commitment, and desire I feel a few of these players could go on to play at a higher level.
