Local coaches tap into Miron’s font of knowledge

COACHES from the local Gold Coast competition have been taking up an invitation from Gold Coast United’s Miron Bleiberg to spend a week up close and personal with the United squad in an initiative designed to allow them to work with some of the country’s top players and broaden their coaching skills.

The hands-on opportunity has been a breath of fresh air according Nerang FC’s coach Brett Budwee, who said it was a joy to spend time with United’s colourful coach and players such as Socceroos Jason Culina and Michael Thwaite.

“The chance to work with the likes of Jason, Michael and the rest of the first team has done more for both my confidence and development as a senior coach than I could ever get doing a coaching course,” Budwee said.

“The respect the players, coaches and staff from United showed me was first class and it was superb to see how they operate on a day-to-day basis.

“It’s a great initiative by the club and while I was Gold Coast United supporter before I went down there, I’m certainly a bigger supporter now. To experience the intensity they bring to their training and to take drills with top players was just brilliant and gave a real insight into what happens at professional level.”

But the knowledge transfer is far from a one-way street, with Bleiberg saying he too has picked up a few pearls of coaching wisdom.

“I always like to interact with other football people and hopefully they have taken some knowledge away with them, but we also pick up bits and pieces because when you exchange ideas with other football coaches everybody learns something,” Bleiberg said.

He added: “It’s our duty as the prominent club in the region to do what we can to further the sport for the benefit of everybody and it has been both very enjoyable and a great success.”
