Gold Coast United Trial Matches

Tue Apr 28 2009

Local trial game dates confirmed

AFTER a month of training the Gold Coast United squad are looking forward their first taste of real game action when the first of a series of trial matches with local clubs kicks off this Thursday (30 April) at Mudgeeraba.

Between 6.00pm – 6.30pm prior to all matches, the Gold Coast United players will sign autographs, meet & greet with fans and pose for photographs, with the football action kicking off at 7.00pm.

Entry is free at all venues with Gold Coast United membership and season ticket information available for fans who wish to secure their seats for all the upcoming big games at Skilled Park.

Midfield dynamo Zenon Caravella says the whole squad is looking forward to some competitive action after a tough month of training.

“It’ll be good to have all the squad together for a game. This will help us to gel as a team so we’re all keen to have a good hit-out and start to get battle-hardened for the season.

“We were eased into training for the first week and it’s been harder and harder since then. The workload has increased but we’re seeing the results because we’re all getting stronger and fitter,” Caravella said.

Helping the players to find cohesion as a team is the outstanding team spirit evident at every training session. In a candid moment, Caravella revealed who is emerging as the dressing room jokers.

“Giggles (Scott Higgins) and Fitzy (Steve Fitzsimmons) of course, but Thwaitey is another who is always up for a good laugh – he’s a crackpot!

“Steve Pantelidis is unassuming but he comes out with some comedic masterstrokes. He doesn’t say much, but when he does it’s worth the wait,” Caravella joked.

“We’ve got a great bunch of guys here and the team spirit is first class. We’re working hard but having fun together, which is the perfect blend.”
