Fri Oct 22 2010
Gold Coast Soccer has received top marks from Football Queensland’s Technical Director; Peter De Roos, for embracing the FFA’s National coaching curriculum via Football Queensland’s Rebel Sports Junior Premier League, the recognized career path for all players aspiring to reach the pinnacle of the game.
“Gold Coast Soccer has implemented the National Curriculum though the Rebel Sports Premier League and the Hyundai U19 Queensland Youth League and the results speak for themselves”.
2010 has been one of the most successful for Gold Coast Soccer with the zone having 30 players selected to play for Queensland in the FFA National Titles
In the U13 boys this year, Austin Ludwick and Milan Egic went to Malaysia with the Australian U14 side to contest the AFC U14 Championships whilst Ambrosia Malone was selected to play in the girls U13 Australian side in Vietnam.
Seven Members of this years U15 RSJPL and U19 QSL team been invited to trial in the new intake at the Queensland Academy of Sport.
Four Gold Coast players are currently contracted to Gold Coast United and another four have been invited into an extended training squad with the National Youth League, four girls from Gold Coast played for the Matildas in the recent AFC campaign and five play for the Brisbane Roar ‘W’ league team. Tom Oar was selected in the extended Socceroo squad for the World Cup and this week played in the AFC U19 Final in China, whilst Shane Smeltz and Glen Moss started for New Zealand in the World Cup in South Africa. All the above are, or have been, involved in the Representative Program delivered by Gold Coast Soccer.
Regional Director of Coaching Pat Hedges is to be congratulated for the high caliber of coaches he has assembled for the representative teams with three of those coaches Stuart Hallum, Graham Hayward and Frazer Cuba being elevated to coach Queensland sides this year.
Through the RDOC all coaches in the program are kept up to date with all the latest coaching techniques and requirements of FFA’s curriculum.
Pat Hedges is also the assistant youth coach at Gold Coast United and he is constantly monitoring the progress of all players in the Representative Program with regular updates passed on to Gold Coast United Youth Coach Mike Mulvey.
There are a number of Academies, Institutes and private coaching organizations on the Gold Coast and they all contribute in their aims of producing better players. However, the only career path recognized by Football Queensland for any player wanting to progress through to the higher levels of the game is through the Rebel Sports Premier League and the Hyundai U19 Queensland Youth League.
The RSJPL trials start this week with an unprecedented 400 players registered so far across the genders and age groups.
Trials are now being held at Gold Coast Soccer Inc’s fields at Carrara and any players interest in participating should contact Gold Coast Soccer on (07) 5579 9544 or Pat Hedges on 0412 564 436.
