Gold Coast FFA Futsal

Wed Jul 1 2009

The Gold Coast Futsal Association Premier League concluded last Friday night at Varsity College. Carrara United were crowned the new champions and celebrated in final style claiming an emphatic 6-0 win over cellar dwellers Inter GC. Carrara United not needing the points, played free flowing futsal, as they had already clinched the title by beating second placed Bond Allstars the previous week.

The other games on the night placed equal third place Ashmore PCYC with second placed Bond Allstars. The Game was a tight struggle, with both teams hitting each other on the counter attack. The Allstars went out to a quick 3 nil lead till PCYC finally rediscovered the magic futsal that they had been playing the last month, and answering with three goals of their own. The rest of the game went goal for goal till PCYC got into foul trouble and conceded to late goals unable to defend with the vigour and intensity they played for most of the match, loosing the game 8-6

The last game of the competition saw equal third Carrara FC take on fifth placed Ashmore City. The game was played at a fast pace as City pushed FC every minute. City with their endless stamina and speed kept on coming back against FC answering with superb free flowing futsal; however in their willingness to attack, they left their defence to contend with the intricate ball skills of the FC attack. FC used individual brilliance and flare with excellent positioning to unravel the City defence. The game ended a 6 all draw, as both teams looked for the elusive winning goal.

As well as Crowning the Futsal Premier League Champions. The Gold Coast Representative Squad was announced. The Criteria was that all players must have played in the Futsal Premier League to qualify.

A squad of 12 players was selected to play in tri series tournaments against Futsal Organisations all over South East Queensland; including teams from The Sunshine Coast, Brisbane, Northern NSW, Ipswich, Redland Bay as well as interstate teams from Sydney.
