A REPLAY of last year’s Grand Final is the pick of the action in Round 10 of the Gold Coast Premier League when in-form Burleigh Heads visit the Croatian Sports Centre to face recently deposed leaders, Gold Coast Knights.

The Knights suffered a shock loss last time out when they went down to Coomera, but Col Phelan’s Burleigh outfit have strung together five consecutive victories and will fancy their chances of extending their superb run.

The defeat at Coomera cost the Knights top spot on the ladder and another loss on Saturday would see them leapfrogged by Burleigh as the crusade for the Premiership heats up. The Knights are made of stern stuff though and few would be surprised if they bounced back to form.

The clash has all the ingredients of a classic encounter between two of the league’s hottest rivals, so expect some tasty tackles and plenty of commitment as both teams battle it out for the three points.

New leaders Broadbeach United will see their trip to Tweed Valley on Sunday as an ideal opportunity to maintain their newly-found position at the head of the pack. The formbook suggests nothing but an away win to Broadbeach, but as Gold Coast Knights know all too well, getting to the top of the league is one thing, staying there is quite another.

Palm Beach Sharks can consolidate their place among the leaders if they can overcome out of form Magic United at Mallawa Drive. The Sharks look solid having only lost twice this term and Magic will have their work cut out to prevent the three points staying with the home side.

Mudgeeraba will be eager to build on their first win of the campaign when they face Musgrave at Keith Hunt Park. Musgrave have been up and down so far, but their recent form is excellent having recorded three straight wins.

Coomera can beat anyone on their day and Surfers Paradise will have to arrest a run of disappointing results if they are to take anything from their visitors on Saturday night. Both sides are capable of scoring goals and there could be plenty of goalmouth action in this one.

The final game of the round is on Sunday when Nerang host Southport at Glennon Park. These two sides are enduring frustrating seasons and have been in free-fall in recent weeks. Something has to give on Sunday though and points gained in this encounter could prove crucial at the end of the season.

With the last weekend’s fixtures washed out due to the horrendous wet weather, it’s time to get back out to your local football club and enjoy some of the terrific action on offer. Get involved and show your support for the players, coaches and volunteers who give their all week in, week out.

Ladder: Broadbeach Utd 19, Gold Coast Knights 18, Palm Beach 18, Coomera 16, Musgrave 16, Burleigh Heads 16, Magic Utd 10, Southport 8, Surfers Paradise 7, Tweed Valley Kings 6, Nerang 3, Mudgeeraba 3.
