THE destiny of this year’s Premiership crown may have been decided last weekend, but there is still plenty to play for in the final fixture round of the Buffalo Sports Premier League season this Saturday night.

The Gold Coast Knights wrapped up the title last weekend with both Burleigh Heads and Musgrave certain of appearing in the Finals Series, but the battle for the one remaining finals spot is a three-way tussle between Broadbeach United, Palm Beach and Magic United.

Broadbeach’s mid-week catch-up win over Musgrave puts them in the box seat going into the last round. With their slightly superior goal difference, a win by any scoreline should be enough for Simon Kalaba’s men to book their finals passage. But they will face determined opposition in the shape of under-pressure Mudgeeraba who must themselves register a win in order to have any chance of avoiding the dreaded relegation play-off.

Waiting to pounce on any Broadbeach slip-up will be Palm Beach and Magic United who go head-to-head in what is sure to be a tense and feisty clash. Nothing less than a win will be enough for either of these sides to have a chance of playing finals football this term and fireworks can be expected at Carrara Stadium.

It’s no less tense at the bottom of the ladder where Mudgeeraba must end their dismal season with a win over Broadbeach if they are to avoid the prospect of losing their Buffalo Sports Premier League status. Even then their destiny will be in the hands of second-last Coomera who only need a draw against Nerang to secure another season in the top division.

With all games kicking off at 5.00pm this Saturday afternoon, mobile phones are sure running hot as team managers and coaches ring around the grounds to get the latest score updates and find out whether their season is still alive or over.
