Brisbane Roar v Gold Coast United

Pride and points at stake in Sunday’s derby

AFTER registering a 3-1 win over Brisbane Roar in the much-hyped opening game of the season, Miron Bleiberg says Sunday’s encounter still has the feel of a local derby, The second South East Queensland derby of the season promises to be another feisty encounter with both teams desperate to secure a triumphant three points, as well as local bragging rights.“The first game against the Roar was extremely important on a number of levels, and even for me personally,” Bleiberg said.“It was an historic game; our first game. You only ever get one first game so this match is more about the three points on offer.“The importance for us is still high. We haven’t won for a little while so we need to win to get back on track, plus it’s a derby game so we want to come out on top from a pride point of view.”Denied the services of Jason Culina and Shane Smeltz due to national team commitments, Bleiberg says the Roar’s loss of Craig Moore for the same reason, plus the suspension of Danny Tiatto and Charlie Miller, evens up the ledger somewhat.“If I’m honest it’s good news for us because they are both good players and important to their team.“We are without Jason and Shane so I guess it balances things up a little. Even with these players missing it should still be a good match because it is important to both teams,” he said.
