RSJPL Girls excel in State and National Selections

The Gold Coast girls’ rep program continues to excel with great success with our U12, U14 and U16 teams.

In the U12’s, Ambrosia Malone has just been selected to represent Australia in the U13 National team that will tour Vietnam in June. As well as Ambrosia, we also had Brianna Moore and Laura Sevil who represented Queensland at Nationals in Canberra in April. Laura Riddel was a shadow player for the Queensland team. Under the coaching of Steve Neligan, we are confident, with the talent at this age group, we will have more of these girls go on to represent the state.

Our U14 girls, under Phil Figgins, are in their first year of playing in the RSJPL and continue to improve every week. Many of the girls are experiencing playing rep football for the first time and already some of them have been asked to play for the U16’s this season and performed very well. We are proud to announce that Eden Jones has been invited to train in Brisbane with the QAS. I am confident that if these girls continue to work hard and improve then we will have quite a few of these girls selected for the U15 state team next year.

The U16’s continue to keep working hard and improving as players. Seven of the girls have been identified by the state teams. Tess Keeley, Harriet Withers, Chelsea Harper, Alicia Van Laarhoven and Lauren Brown have made the Queensland U15 team that will go to Nationals in July. Hayley Raso has been selected for the U17 team and Brooke Eacott is a shadow player. We also have Bronte Rose who has been invited to train with the QAS in Brisbane. We are very proud of these girls and I feel that there are other talented players in the team who were unlucky to miss out, but will get their chance again next year. Lauren and Chelsea went on to be named in the national Girls 15 All Stars Team

Our program follows the national curriculum of playing the 1-4-3-3 formation which encourages good passing football. Players need to have good technique on the ball as well as having roles and responsibilities on the field. We have some of the best players in the State and with our talented younger players coming through the program will only continue to grow.

 A special mention must go to Mckensie Arnold who is now at the QAS and has also been training with the U20 National team and also to Annie McCleary who has just made the U17 Queensland team. Both these players came through the Gold Coast program.
